Sad News: Rev Alan Currie

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Alan Currie last week.

It was with deep sadness that we learnt of the death on 28th September of Rev Alan Currie, our Assistant Priest. He was a much loved and inspirational teacher, priest and friend.

There has been an enormous response by the community in Hexham, his current and former students and colleagues at the High School, and many others from far and wide who have been touched by his life. Around 850 people came to his funeral service on Friday 13th October, at 12noon, in the Abbey. Queen Elizabeth High School Choir sang a medley of songs reminiscent of Alan's Youth Theatre productions. Tony Webster, Headteacher 1997 - 2008, paid a wonderful tribute to him, which you can read here - and Canon Dagmar Winter, the Rector, gave an address which you can also access here.

Eternal God,

Thank you for Alan Currie,

for all he gave and shared.

Help us

to honour his memory

to encourage each other,

and never to cease exploring

the wonder of life

and the source

of his inspiration.

So give us strength for today

and hope for tomorrow.

In the name of Christ.
