Hexham Abbey Film Club – Elf

Elf is a Christmas comedy about Buddy, a human who was accidentally brought to the North Pole as a baby and raised as an elf. Now an adult—cheerful, enthusiastic, and blissfully out of place—Buddy learns the truth about his origins and sets off to New York City to find his biological father, Walter Hobbs, a grumpy children’s book publisher who has no idea Buddy exists.
In the city, Buddy’s childlike innocence and elf-like manners lead to a series of funny and chaotic encounters: he decorates a department store overnight, exposes a fake Santa, and disrupts Walter’s tightly wound life. Gradually, Buddy forms bonds with Walter’s wife Emily, young son Michael, and shy co‑worker Jovie—all while trying to spark a little Christmas spirit in a jaded world.
A warm, whimsical story about belonging, family, and festive joy, Elf has become a modern Christmas classic, celebrated for its humour, heart, and Will Ferrell’s much‑loved performance as Buddy.
