The Grand Arc of Revelation
This is the third and final talk in a series of theology lectures taking place at Hexham Abbey alongside the Threads Through Revelation exhibition by renowned textile artist Jacqui Parkinson.
The final lecture, entitled The Grand Arc of Revelation, will be given by the Reverend Tony Buglass.
One book. One extraordinary vision. One great sweep from beginning to end.
The Book of Revelation can seem bewildering: strange beasts, cosmic battles, dazzling visions, judgement, hope and glory. But beneath its complexity lies a great story — an unfolding vision of where history is heading.
In this final talk, Revd Tony Buglass will attempt the ambitious: to take us on a breath-taking journey through the whole of Revelation, tracing its great arc and drawing its many visions into a single, manageable picture.
Think of it as a sketch-map for the whole book — a way of finding our bearings, seeing how the pieces fit together, and discovering what Revelation might actually be saying.
John’s world was very different from ours. And yet, across the centuries, every generation has found echoes of its own hopes, fears, conflicts and dreams in these extraordinary visions.
So what might Revelation say to us — to the world we inhabit now, to the reality we face, and to the future we dare to hope for?
Come and discover the grand arc. The final vision. The journey from chaos to glory.
