SUMMARY:Reading Apocalyptic Literature and the Context of Revelation
DESCRIPTION:This is the first in a series of theology lectures taking place at Hexham Abbey alongside the Threads Through Revelation exhibition by renowned textile artist Jacqui Parkinson. \nThe first lecture will be given by the Reverend Professor Jamie Davies\, a highly regarded scholar and expert on the Book of Revelation. Professor Davies has made a significant contribution to our understanding and interpretation of this fascinating and complex biblical text\, both through his academic work and his engaging public lectures. \nWhat do we do with a book filled with dragons\, beasts\, angels\, cosmic battles\, strange visions and astonishing promises? \nThe Book of Revelation has fascinated\, puzzled and sometimes frightened readers for nearly two thousand years. But what if we have been reading it all wrong? \nWe are delighted to welcome Revd Professor Jamie Davies\, Kirby Laing Professor of New Testament Exegesis at the University of Aberdeen\, to open our new series of lectures exploring the Book of Revelation. \nIn this fascinating opening lecture\, Professor Davies will explore how Revelation works as apocalyptic literature\, and the world in which it was written\, helping us to see beyond the sensational imagery to the deeper vision at the heart of the book. \nThis is not simply a book about the end of the world. \nIt is a book about seeing the world differently. \nAnd this is where the journey begins… \nReading Revelation\nA series of lectures at Hexham Abbey accompanying Jacqui Parkinson’s extraordinary Threads Through Revelation exhibition. \nTo secure tickets\, please scan the QR code below.
