Originally fixed in St Mary's Church, Lowgate, on the north wall; the church closed 25th May 2003. 2009. On 8th October the Rector said that he did not want these to be put up in the Abbey; to leave them where they were until the future of the building [St Mary, Lowgate] was known. I [CND] spoke to the men (in August?[2016]) who were working from scaffolding on the north side [of St Mary Lowgate] and asked about the brass tablets. One said that he would speak to his mother. Later, in a phone call, she said that they would be taken down and sent to the Abbey within days. I wrote to the Rector and John Robinson and told them but I have never heard the tablets mentioned since then. Plate removed by Mr Harry Awburn to prevent damage by contractors making internal alterations c2015? June 2019: Brought to the Abbey by Hugh Dixon, its whereabouts since removal from Lowgate church having been discovered by Frances McIntosh. The Young family farmed at Breckon Hill next to Blossom Hill Farm [farmer: Harry Awburn] on which Lowgate Church was built in the 1890s. In Q3 1920 the death was registered of Margaret Walker Young, aged 77, wife of John Smith Young, farmer at Blossom Hill in 1911 census; their daughter Mary died aged 2 in 1871 – see HEXAB1198. | ||||||||||
