Oak chair in 17th-century style with high back with open pedimented scroll work mainly simple geometrical scoring with gouged decoration. Arms curving downward, with a gadrooned decoration near the back and scrolled front ends on turned supports. Front legs turned, back square section some peg joints but also extra seat support fixed with screws. Seat front apron has external decoration of tangent Ss and ‘1652’ on reverse but not of that date.
On splat supporting seat: [in pencil] MRS REEVES WILFRED HALL OCT 1949 with label:
‘from | P Hall and Son | Carvers and Gilders | Pilgrim St Newcastle upon Tyne Chimney Glass | Picture Frame Manufacturers Dealers in Antique Carving’.
Brass plate nailed on rear of back with inscription:
