Hatchment of Isaac Sparke d.1816

Isaac Sparke esq. (d.1816 aged 23), of St John's college, Cambridge and Summerrods, Hexham. His memorial tablet [HEXAB1037] is on the wall of the north chancel aisle. The white background on the sinister (right-hand) side shows that his wife survived him. His wife Elizabeth Mary, a grand-daughter of Charles Shaftoe of Carrycoats, died in 1819 aged 22. He was a distant relation by marriage to Martha, wife of Robert Clarke.
Blazon: Quarterly 1st and 4th, azure and gules an eagle displayed argent on a chief or three martlets gules [for Sparke]; 2nd and 3rd, gules three herons proper [for Heron]. On an escutcheon in pretence gules on a bend argent three molets azure [for Shafto].
Crest: an eagle displayed argent rests on a wreath or torse.
Helm facing dexter shows that this belonged to an esquire or gentleman.
