to have presented a similar copy of this book ‘handsomely bound’ to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her visit to Hexham on Mon 1st July 1974 to mark the 1300 Anniversary of the founding of the Abbey. (PCC 5/3/1974) “Publication of the book ‘St Wilfrid at Hexham’ had been delayed by the 3 day week.” (PCC 4/3/1975 p195) “A report had been received from Mr Whitehouse [Headmaster of the Hexham Queen Elizabeth Grammar School & member of PCC] on the Presentation Book for the Queen. The cost of the special binding will be £25 + VAT.
