Simple kneeler front: platform with front sleeper supporting two outside and two inner uprights with a top rail – all with simple edge mouldings. On top of kneeler platform an upholstered wooden kneeler [HEXAB161.2]. Memorial inscription [No date] in middle top of support sleeper added in 1953 after death of Frances A Hawthorn.

1941: ‘The Rector then proceeded to the Dedication of the Corner: “We dedicate this Children's Corner to bear henceforth the name of Saint Christopher, the Patron Saint of children”.’ [Hex. Par. Mag., July 1941, p.4/5]
Made originally for St Christopher's chapel, the Children's Corner established in the North bay of the North Transept in July 1941. [Hex.Par.Mag. Sep 1941]
1953: Death of Frances A Hawthorn age 76 registered 1Q1953 [Northumberland West, 1b p516]
2023: Abbey management apparently keen to dispose of the memorial kneeler front, despite the lack of a valid faculty.
Frances Hawthorn's younger sister, Miss Lilian Hawthorn, is commemorated by the inscription on kneeler-front [HEXAB154.1]

Kneeler pad with 7 panels from left. Fish, dog, house, boy with toys, tree & animals, cow, sun & moon. Background bluey/grey, separating & edging in dark yellow. Canvas work. Stands on 4 wooden batons but one baton missing. Made for the Children's Corner established in the North bay of the North Transept in 1941.
